I will die one day, then why I am doing what everyone is doing. What is my purpose here… Do these thoughts haunt you when you sit alone or in night?
These thoughts come to every one of us at one time or other. But what is the answer?
Everyone of us is trying to find out the answer. I too was finding an answer to this question eagerly. After looking and understanding so many ideas I cannot fully agree. Some say that living happily is your purpose. We always run after wealth and happiness.
But there was something that can answer this. I am a great fan of poetry and qawwali( devotional music) and it has answered many of my questions. It helps me to have a different perspective of life. Then I came across a qawwali by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab : “Othe Amla te hone ne nabede” . It was so thought provoking. It is in punjabi language.
"Othe amla te hone ne nabede, kise ni teri jaat puchni " -
On the day of judgement, you will be judged by your deeds not your caste.
Another line is:
" padhi namaz te niyaaz na sikhiya, teriyaan kis kam padhiyaan namaazan"
You pray everyday but you have not learned to help, then of what use is your prayer.
This one is just awesome:
" tainu moda de ke torna jahan ne, auna mitti thalle teri uchi shaan ne"
The world will take your dead body on their shoulders and all your prides will be demolished in soil.( We all are not more than soil, but we create our prides, we will get to know our true worth when our body becomes and get mixed with soil.
you can listen it here:
The qawwali is in punjabi and I can translate it for you. But an amazing translation was already there, so instead I will provide you the link:
The qawwalis and Sufi music has always attracted me. It gives me strength and helps you to make connection with oneself and this universe. Not only the lyrics are awesome but the music connects you to your soul.
We all are here to serve. We have been given this life to serve humanity, to do something that makes a difference in the world, to put a smile on someone’s face, to become a reason for someone’s happiness, to be of some use to others.
“The purpose of our lives is to add value to the people of this generation and those that follow.”Buckminster Fuller, Inventor and Philosopher
Let us learn to serve. Do whatever you can do on your part. It may not be a big thing but it will be great for someone you do.
Do everyone has same purpose then?
You might be thinking, this way everyone has same purpose. How can that be possible provided everyone is different in their behavior, skills and thinking.
Yes, you are right! It is not same for everyone but the underlying purpose is same. To be useful and to provide. To give what you can to this world according to your ability and capacity. We all have different ways for doing that. And you have it move on your specific way. Don’t compare your path to others.
I wrote the title “Stop seaching..” but actually you don’t have to stop searching. What I mean by saying “Stop searching” is not to look at it as a destination. Don’t look at your purpose as something final you have to achieve. Whatever you are doing is a part of your purpose. Keep walking the path and you will get answers for what to do next. Follow your calling and do what you feel is important to yourself.
The answer is in your natural gifts
Each one of has some talents that were naturally given to us. We are naturally good at some things. These talents and gifts were given to you for a reason. You have to use them and share with others. Think of something you always liked doing or always wanted to do. Maybe the answer is there.
This is our mission in life to share our gifts and values with as many people as possible. In order to use your talents to full ability, you have to work and make certain sacrifices, but that will be worth it.
